We have seen portable drone jammer before, although they are usually in the form of large cannons that would be tedious to transport over long distances. However, the new clip-on Pitbull is designed to be worn by dismantled soldiers for hours.
The Pitbull is manufactured by the Danish company MyDefense and weighs 775 g (without battery). According to reports, it can run for up to 20 hours in standby mode or two hours in traffic.
Users can manually activate the device so that its internal directional antennas transmit radio signals in the 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) frequency bands up to a range of 1 km (0.6 miles). An optional external antenna that is not yet available covers additional frequencies.
These signals will reportedly interfere with those used to remotely control an enemy drone without interfering with the soldier's radio communications system.
However, the device can also be connected to MyDefence's recently released Wingman 103 portable drone jammer, which automatically causes the pit bull to block when the control and / or video signals from an incoming drone are detected. It adds an additional 735 g of weight and has a range of up to 2 km.
